– Have you ever asked yourself, does this thing really work? Or maybe you’ve asked yourself, is this worth the money? If you have, this video’s gonna answer those two questions for you. So keep watching. Hello, you guys, and welcome back to another Vivian Tries. Today I have for you one of
the most requested gadgets, kitchen appliances, whatever
you want to call them. We’re testing the air fryer. This thing is all the rave and guess what I have for you today? I have sweet potato fries. I have, what is this? I just went blank. What is this called? Brussels sprouts and then
I have a surprise here that I’ll show you in a second. But first, let’s open up the machine and see what’s inside. And it would’ve been smart to kind of review the
instructions or something because this product is not cheap. No, and I actually got a product that was, I think this one is 99.99. There is the Philips
Airfryer which is like $200. I thought that was a little much so I got this guy. We’re gonna test it. They’re probably all the same thing. Don’t you think? I don’t know, but I’m about to find out. My mom and my sister, they just got one, literally a week ago and they’ve been raving about it. Oh, it’s kinda big. Instructions. Somebody read those for me really quickly and let me know what it says. Take all the plastic off. Wow, it’s like a space ship or something. Can you not remove this? Hold on, let me see, let me inspect. Okay. Oh, okay, so this is like
the little basket tray thing. That’s not optional. That is needed. Okay, got it, got it. Let me go clean this out. Plug just comes out like this. Got it. There’s a little bit of
instruction right here. I don’t need to take out that entire book. Chicken, what looks like
chicken, right here. 360 degrees, it looks like
a little chicken drumstick. 15 to 22 minutes. This still seems like a long time, but maybe my expectations
are too high sometimes. We’re gonna start off with
the sweet potato fries ’cause maybe I wanna snack on those while we wait for the other items. I’m just gonna wing it,
like I do every video. Shows a little snowflake, so I am assuming that means a
frozen product or frozen fries because it has a little
stick looking thing there. So we’re gonna call that fries. And we’re gonna say they’re frozen fries. So it’s saying it’s
gonna cook at 390 degrees for 12 to 16 minutes. I’m not sure what the limit is. It doesn’t tell me, but there it is. It’ll be fine. They’re just sweet potato fries. It’s not that serious, folks. Okay, here we go. Easy peasy. (machine beeps) Fancy, oh yeah. On. Do I need to preheat this thing? Really? I don’t know why I assumed I’m just gonna click on one of these and it would just go. I was wrong. 390, there we go. Right in the middle to be safe. Right there, it says. Oh fuck, it’s gonna fall off my counter before we even get started ’cause I’m trying to show
you guys what’s happening. 13 minutes, set, what do I do now? Start. I wonder if I had to preheat it? Oh, there’s like a fan turned on. Did I have to preheat this thing? Oh, okay. If I get crispy sweet
potato fries out of this, I’m gonna be excited. I’m already excited and
nothing’s happening. I guess it’ll tell me when it’s done. We’ll be right back. My kitchen smells like yummy,
crispy sweet potato fries. I don’t know if you guys can hear me because the fan on this
thing is pretty loud. 10 minutes until we have
yummy, crispy sweet potato, I’m so excited. I’m so excited. I’m excited about my brussels sprouts that I cleaned and chopped up right before this video. I prepped. I didn’t read the instructions, but I prepped. 17 seconds. Is everybody excited? I’m excited. And one. (machine beeps) Yay. Are you guys ready for the big reveal? I am. Okay, I don’t even want it to get dirty. There’s a little flap here that you have to pull up there. Okay, ready. Do I have to let it sit or anything? I’m asking you guys
when I have instructions in that box over there. Okay, ready. (groans) It’s not ready because I can’t open it. Here we go. (machine beeps) Oh. They’re not crispy. They’re cooked, but they’re not crispy. Aw, I think I was supposed
to preheat this thing. They’re cooked, but they’re not crispy. Mm, did I do it wrong? Should I put them back in? I’m gonna say this one was my fault because I didn’t preheat it. Maybe I’m supposed to
preheat it like an oven. Okay, so I’m gonna put it back. (machine beeps) I just love the little noises it makes. On, no, I just turned it off. There’s a preheat button, but I’ve already preheated it because it’s just been
cooking for 13 minutes at 390 degrees. We’re gonna do it again, but for like three
minutes because it said, whatever. No. I just reset, fucker. Ah, dumb dumb. Three minutes, folks. For the hundred bucks that I paid for it, it better work. You know? (machine beeps) Okay, flip the little thing. So now its been in here
for a total of 16 minutes. They’re still not crispy. They’re not at all, da da da da da, hot. Real quick, digging in here
for some shit to burn me. Wait, this one, they’re cooked. Okay, fine, fine. I won’t grab it with my hands. Look, they’re actually
a little raw, a lot raw. I’m about to give you the
truth on these air fryers. Are they a scam? What? Let’s go ahead and put in
these brussels sprouts. These are not frozen. So I’m gonna go with the one that says it’s not frozen. Am I doing it wrong? Okay, maybe I was supposed to
take them out and shake them. Maybe that was the thing. Ta da. I’m gonna say 18 minutes. (machine beeps) You know what I don’t like, is that it says end, right, because I finished the sweet potatoes and how do I start it again? Do I have to turn it
off and turn it back on? That’s stupid. Somebody from NuWave redesign that. I’m gonna go ahead and stop it because I think I’m gonna burn them now. I think I’m gonna burn my brussels sprouts and I don’t wanna burn
my brussels sprouts. I don’t know how I feel about this thing. We’ll find out from this
little thing right here you guys don’t know I have. That’ll be the final test. Let’s see what my brussels
sprouts look like. (machine beeps) Voila. What do you think? I mean, I would eat them. Pour those out. Alright, so there are the brussels sprouts which, fuckers, they’re not, uh uh. They’re not ready. I took them out too soon. I mean, they’re kinda ready, but they’re not ready. I’m sure I’m supposed
to be cleaning this out in between things, but we
don’t got time for that. Here is our last item. This thing said it would
cook a whole chicken. So guess what I have in here? You’ll never guess. You’ll never, ever guess. Mm hmm, I know what you’re thinking, a whole chicken. It’s a baby chicken. It’s a tiny little hen. I wasn’t sure how big of
a chicken it would cook, so I just picked up one
of these little baby hens and I’m gonna put it
in this little basket. This thing says 22 minutes to cook. Yeah, right. Doubt it. Let’s put him in the little basket. Tuck him in there real nice. I feel like I should put
some potatoes in there like a little pillow
or something for y’all. (machine beeps) This thing better come out
crispy, beautiful, little hen. So we’re gonna go for 22 minutes. Okay, so while its been cooking, I’ve been watching some videos. You guys probably can’t hear me over this damn loud ass thing. I am gonna stop it. I’m gonna flip this little guy over because that’s what it said to do on a YouTube video I just watched. The expectations that I had are completely out the
window at this point. Oh, so far so good. Hey, little chicken. He’s crispy. This might work. It smells delish. I’m letting all the heat out. What am I doing? Texting my sister. Telling her she might be
owing me a hundred bucks if this thing doesn’t work. Five seconds left. (machine beeps) Look at it. It’s kind of perfect. Crispy, for sure. Okay, let’s, it’s not ready. You guys, look, there’s
still bloody droppings coming out of this basket. It’s not ready. It’s not ready. I don’t know, you guys. I don’t know what to
think about this thing. I’m not totally sold on it. It’s not really saving me any time. If you’re looking for a
healthier cooking method, maybe you want this machine. But for $100, I want you to
be a healthier cooking method. I need you to be fast. I need you to cook me breakfast, take it to me in bed. I mean, that’s a lot of money for a gadget when I have an oven right there. I’m not really sold on this thing. I made a mistake with
the sweet potato fries. I did not preheat this thing. That was my fault. I mean, the little baby hen. I’ve tortured it for long enough. I wouldn’t buy this product. I know there are the fanatics out there who love this thing and they make all kinds of things in here. I’ll just keep using my oven for now. So I’m going to give this
guy three Vivian heads. All right, you guys, that is it for another Vivian tries. Thank you so much for coming
back for another video and I’ll see you guys in the next one. Bye.

  1. I think most of us are at least tempted to not to read the instruction. You do that for us and show us what will happen. If its a good product, other people will comment and say what you did wrong and how much they like theirs and then we will know. "Ease of Use" is a big selling point, so you show us all exactly how easy (or not) a product is to use. Keep up the great work!

  2. Hi Vivian, you have to follow regular ways of cooking. This is not a magic box. Fries need to be in one layer with a light coat of oil, toss half way so it can be crispy on both side. Chicken needs to cook like you would in an oven too. You didnโ€™t give this a fair chance in my opinion. This air fryer used the same amount of time as cooking regular way. It only save you of not having to turn on the oven for small job. Great for cooking in the summer.

  3. I usually assume a gadget is supposed to be easier, faster, etc than what I already have and I donโ€™t want to have to read a huge long instruction book. My crock pot- plug in, dump your food in, set the heat level and let it go. Other machines come with a quick-guide that at least gets you started. Everyone who bashed Vivian for not reading the manual and recipe book are a step above us average people who are looking for convenience to make the most of the free time we have!

  4. Just, go take your bubble bath or whatever, okay honey, and let ME do this, okay? That's your angle, right? You drive me crazy.

  5. Almost bought this air fryer at kohls. The salesman said he bought it but now owns the Phillips brand. Says Phillips cooks all the way through. If it's got Gordon Ramsey's face on the box, I guess he approves.

  6. Girl! Iโ€™m with you 100% If it isnโ€™t easy right out of the box and fast, helping to cut my time in half, it just ainโ€™t worth it to me! $100 isnโ€™t cheap, ESPECIALLY when you already have a perfectly good oven already right in yo damn kitchen ๐Ÿ˜‚ Keep doing your reviews YOUR way, thatโ€™s what draws everybody to you. If you did it the way so many commenters want you to then itโ€™d be boring…

  7. Hi Vivian I was wondering when you going to try the NuWave Oven I truly would love to see you do a review on this on the NuWave Oven I'm hoping you do a long review not a sure one please do a long review try everything that you can cook on that sucker to see how it comes out

  8. you get what you pay for I have the latest Phillip's and it works would not only work but cook those items you tried in half the time.

  9. First you need to spray a little oil on your fries and you had to many fries in the basket…if not crispy enough just put in for a few more min…..

  11. Girl it's not your fault. Just throw that junk out into the dumpster and cook your food into the good ol' oven. This new wave bullshit is just that… BULLSHIT

  12. I'm with Vivian, if a relatively simple product can't be used without reading the instructions first, the dang thing is not designed intuitively enough. Great review as always, very entertaining, love your personality!

  13. This explains her excitement and how impressed she was when she reviewed the Ninja Foodie ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  14. I have no trouble with my air fryer but different brand I have cooked every thing from shrimp to French fries to Motorola sticks for hallopeno poppers to chicken wings and backed potatoes

  15. Pre heat the air fryer for 1o minutes.. But also spirit a little cooking spray on the fries and let it cook for a 15 minutes at 350 degrees and then take it out and check them. moving around and then spray a little more cooking spray on them and put it back in for another 15 minutes then they come out crispy that's what I have to do to fresh potato fries and same with Frozen potato fries with my air fryer

  16. I have a Phillips it works great and saves money as to not use the oven ….just keep your food cooking linger ….works great for 1 to 2 people that are going to eat ….

  17. I've been contemplating on buying an air fryer, but like you I'm not totally sold on it yet. One of my favorite foods is fried catfish and I would not feel comfortable putting it in this machine.

  18. Ok so you need to add 2 tablespoons oil to the fryer to make crispy fries believe me it works and tastes amazing

  19. you have to preheat, then you have to shake the fries half way, I use mine all the time and it works great.

  20. My sister got one of these things for Christmas last year. It was not something that she especially wanted; but I did. LOL We checked it out together and she decided she liked it after all. But I'm with you. I can bake a healthy chicken in my oven. It takes a bit longer, but not as much unnecessary cleanup. As to the fried part. I don't eat that much fried stuff, so even my doctor agreed that an occasional fried chicken, or potato is not going to do that much harm.

  21. Love my air fryer fries fast easy no smelly grease chicken burgers cripsy and the chicken wings oh yeah so you mite need to use few Xtra minutes but yes it works great and it's not this brand just a cheaper one.

  22. I'll just stick with my oven. At least I can get more than one thing at a time in the oven. My sister has one and she likes it but I'll just stick to a normal stove…

  23. Just got one not sure if i like it or not i made ff cooked them for 20 min they were a little crispy but a little dry i did chicken thighs they really didnt get that crispy my friend made chicken wings she loved them mine is a chefman

  24. Hey you 45% who haven't shared Vivian Tries with your friends, do it now. Vivian is hilarious & informative. Become a "Vitch" and share! ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. I truly hate the air fryer. I tried cooking french fries and they were dry and way too crispy on the edges. I understand you're supposed to Spritz them with oil

  26. Like I said if you Spritz it with oil in a spray bottle you will have a better chance of it being crispy but not dried out on the edges. I never tried spritzing with oil but anything I ever cooked did not come out right. They got this concept from the convectional oven but it just doesn't work

  27. I've been wanting one but dont wanna pay so much , but would be useful for my teenage kids to use , haven't watched but here I go , love that u try everything so we know not to waste our dough

  28. Do you not have to put a tablespoon of oil in? We go in some in the UK! Iโ€™m fairly new to you but I find myself watching through the night and wake up my partner laughing x

  29. Ahhh I'm so excited for this review! I keep telling my hubby we need an air fryer and he said it's not as good as a normal fryer. Let's see ๐Ÿคž. Btw: I LOVE your reviews, you're extremely honest and you run your channel how you choose to!
Ouch… 3 vivian heads… no air fryer :(. Thanks for being honest!

  30. For fries of any kind I find if you spray with a little oil and shake them to mix in the oil. Put in on highest setting for 15 minutes, shake it all about, then put back on for 10 to 15 mins. I donโ€™t find it really saves cooking time, but the food you cook is healthier.

  31. You have to preheat and the more product you pile in on top of each other you have to increase cooking time

  32. HATE the nuwave airfryer. Have a nuwave oven and burner that I absolutely love. Very disappointed with this product. Also, on stick pan was not non stick and hard to clean.

  33. If youโ€™d read the institutions first you wouldโ€™ve known that they recommend shaking them in the same basket and put it right back in. You get crispy all the time.

  34. I love making chicken wings in it. All different kinds! Parmesan, hot, all kinds. Oh and you need to spray them with olive oil or something to get crispy! At least mine works with that.

  35. I Love my NuWave Brio mine is a 6qt, I want to get the NuWave Bravo XL could you test that one?? Pretty please…..

  36. Vivian, the air fryer works fine- I have used one with fantastic results. However, you personally seem to have reliability issues…just kidding!

  37. I don't like how all these new kitchen gadgets suck electricity. I live in a building that was built 100 years ago, seriously lacks electrical outlets, especially the "high intensity" kind. I have only one outlet in my kitchen and the frig is plugged into one plug already. Yeah, if I ever won the lottery I'd get my whole kitchen (and bathroom) stripped to the studs and put in a new, functional one but until that happens, I can't do all these electric gadgets.

  38. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  39. We use our air fryer and it works great. Great for pizza snacks, nuggets, bbq chicken legs. Play with time and temperature , reduce temp and longer time sometimes works. Nice video

  40. No. Got one from hsn . Sent back. The only place the greasy air can go is all over the kitchen. And u still have to use oil.

  41. Sweet po.s take longer to cook than russts but still, nothing gets crisp in those things. Think is too gd to be true it is.
