WHEN I POST A NEW VIDEO EVERY WEDNESDAY! Hey there! I’m Emma Natter, and I help you beat the
odds and create your own success. We talk a lot about how to help people understand
the incredible value you bring with what you do. If you’re ready to start bringing in the
kind of revenue that is possibly by building your tribe using email marketing, by the end
of this video, you’ll know exactly how to make the 4 building blocks of email marketing
happen for free. This is the same process I encourage all of
my students and clients to use right when they’re starting to dabble in email marketing. Many of these students and clients now have
hundreds or thousands of subscribers and have made multiple five figures again and again. With email marketing, you have to work backwards
to figure out where to start. At the end of the day, you want someone to
buy something from you. We’re not getting into product creation
right now, but sometimes people just need that reminder that in order to make money
doing something, you actually have to have something to sell. If you’re totally new and don’t have anywhere
to take payments, you can have people PayPal or Venmo you to get started. You don’t need fancy software if you’ve
got what people want. Save that for later. Then to take a step back from that, we need
to write emails that will make them want to buy stuff from you. That means you need an email provider that
can keep track of all of the email addresses on your list and automatically send emails
to all of them without you having to send out a hundred or more individual emails yourself. I highly recommend Mailchimp to start. This is where I started and it was great! They allow you to have up to 2000 subscribers
before you ever hand them a dollar, so it’s a great place to start. 2000 subscribers is a great place to be. Why I love Mailchimp to start is that you
don’t need fancy funnels and automation. You just need to practice consistently emailing
your list every week. MailChimp can do that. For free. And if you decide to ever move from Mailchimp
to do some fancier stuff, you can always download your list and upload it to your next provider. And a step further back from that, we need
the email address and permission of the kind of person who might someday buy something
from you. So, we need a page where they can enter their
email address and that page talks to MailChimp to give them the name and email address so
you can keep it forever. Or until they unsubscribe, which, by the way,
happens to everyone so don’t feel rejected when people do. This kind of page is called a landing page,
an opt-in page, or a squeeze page, because you’re squeezing the email address out of
the visitor. This feels a little violent so we can stick
with the others. But the great news is that MailChimp also
has landing page software. And when I was starting my business, these
landing pages were NOT cute and they totally are now. And having multiple things happening on one
platform will make your life easier. So use mail chimp as much as you can. So so far we can have them buy, email them,
and get their email addresses totally for free. Amazing, isn’t it? It feels a little like we’re cheating but
we’re definitely not. So, the next part to back up to. how do we entice someone to give you their
email on that landing page? And to be honest, this is one of the hardest
parts that marketing gurus always make sound so simple and it really isn’t. You’ll see some people just inviting you
to subscribe to their newsletter or their love notes. To be honest, this can work if you have a
bunch of people who just want to hear from you no matter what. But, that’s just not that enticing unless
you’ve got a bit of a celebrity status. Instead, what you’re going to do is offer
them a free sample. In the email marketing world, you’ll hear
people call this a freebie, opt-in, or lead magnet. Freebie because it’s something free you
giveaway, opt-in because they’re deciding to opt-in to your list, and lead magnet, because
the ideal is that you’re attracting the right leads with this free resource. So far we have that you need something to
sell, emails, and a freebie. Pretty simple concept, but let’s dig into
actually how to do that. We’ll start with a freebie. In 100% honesty, you’re probably not going
to offer something super enticing your first time around. It took me a lot of tries before I had a lead
magnet that converted well. But, here’s the advice I CAN give. You’re going to want people to understand
the beautiful nuances that you do. You’re going to want people to feel deeply. You’re going to feel turned off from titles
like “5 texts to send him to make him want you,” “Free chocolate chip s’mores cookie
recipe,” or “3 free phone backgrounds.” You’re going to think, “but my relationship
advice goes SO much deeper than texting! And there’s SO much we need to lay the groundwork
for before we can even touch texting.” You’re going to be annoyed and think, “but
I want to teach people how to NOT be so dependent on recipes and how to just use the ingredients
in their kitchent!” You’re going to think, “giving away free
phone backgrounds goes against the potential for my work to hang in galleries. It cheapens my work!” To be honest, I’ve felt all of this too. But I need you to try to put yourself in the
position of the potential audience member. If you’re learning to play the piano do
you want to learn scale fingerings or would you rather learn how to play hey jude by ear? It may not be what your piano teacher would
start with, but it is way more enticing to promise I’ll teach you how to play hey jude You’d get to play and sing or play for your
friends and it would be so much more fun than sitting down and playing scales for your friends
or for yourself. So even though your beautiful heart wants
to teach them the foundational approach, the beauty that is your philosophy, you can’t
title your freebie that. You just can’t. It’s not enticing and no one’s going to
opt-in. It doesn’t matter how much YOU feel passionately
about it, they have to want it. And remember, whatever you got started doing,
you didn’t go looking for how to play scales either. BUT. That doesn’t mean you can’t also start
teaching them your amazing approach and foundation You should start inserting your unique approach
into anything you share. Don’t regurgitate what you’ve heard before. Put your own spin on it. This is CRUCIAL to succeed in email marketing. So basically with your freebie, you could
teach, offer a discount, give a gift, or give some kind of template. And to create any of that, you might need
to design stuff or record stuff. If you’re designing, I highly recommend
the free design software called Canva. I use it all the time and love it. It just takes a few minutes to get used to,
and you can create downloadable PDFs as well as graphics to promote your freebie in Canva. If you’re wanting to create a free video
or audio class, just use your iphone and upload it to YouTube as unlisted so no one else can
find it. Totally free. Then you just put a link to that in the email
that goes out when someone signs up for your freebie. That’s something you can set up for them
to get automatically. Now the last part to back up to. Just because you made a landing page doesn’t
mean anyone is going to be able to find it, let alone sign up. You have to send people there. The only person’s job is you. My preferred free way is through Instagram. You get ONE link in your profile to send people
to. Make this it. And mailchimp is going to give you an ugly
looking URL that nobody’s is going to remember. Go to bit.ly and you can get a custom url
for free. I’m always creating bit.ly links for everything
because it can be a hassle to buy all kinds of domain names and stuff. It takes about 10 seconds to create a bit.ly
link that could say something as simple as possible like, “bit.ly/powermeditations.” This communicates so simply and powerfully
what you’re giving away! Then, create graphics in Canva that entice
people to come check out your freebie. Post these graphics on your posts or in your
stories, or on your personal Facebook, in personal emails to your entire network, on
your Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, wherever you have a community or network, share it
there. And that’s how you can get started in email
marketing completely for free! Remember, we just need:
A product to sell, Emails to write, A place to capture email addresses,A freebie to leverage
for their address, Exposure on all platforms to send people there. All of which you can do 100% for free But what happens when it comes time to actually
