Internet Marketing Strategy Basics – Target Group Definition – Part 2


Defining your target group. Define your target
group: Accurate and precise. What that means… I have an example here from a real estate
group I presented to. An accurate definition of target group would be homeowners that want
to sell real estate. If you’re a real estate broker or if you’re a real estate agent,
this might be the good target group: Homeowners that want to sell real estate, because you
are always hearing struggling for more options. If you want to do a more precise, because
homeowners that want to sell real estate are all over the world but you’re in Hawaii,
you say, “Okay. Let me narrow it down.” Homeowners that want to sell real estate in
Waikiki. So, target group is way smaller but you can focus your target group. You’re
not ever seeing millions and millions of people who are all over the world, no. You’re focusing
on homeowners that want to sell their homes in Waikiki. Next thing is, because that’s
not enough, we say, “Okay,” because then it could be a parking lot, it could be a garage,
it could be an apartment, it could be a house, it could be whatever, but a lot of times it
makes sense, especially in real estate, if you specialize in something. There’s people
that specialize on sand, for example, golf courses. There’s people that focus on family
homes. There’s people that specialize on condos or apartments. That’s what we did
with the last point. We said, “Okay, we only want to target the homeowners that want
to sell their apartment in Waikiki.” Small target group but if you’re good with your
marketing, everybody that wants to sell his or her apartment in Waikiki will come to you
because they know, “Oh, that’s the guy because he only does apartments, so he knows
what he’s talking about,” instead of going to somebody who does everything. So, target
group, very important. Why is it so important? Because of the target group. If you know your
target group, the better that you find it and the better that you know your target group,
the better will your Internet marketing and internal investment. Because then, you don’t
market to just everybody out there. You market to the people that are most likely your future
clients, so find your target group. That’s very important. After that, you can actually
think about going out there and market yourself.
